Costa Rica Meadery wins 3 medals at Copa Cervecera del Pacifico

SANTA BARBARA, Costa Rica - March 17, 2023 - PRLog -- Costa Rica Meadery, which produces mead (honey wine), beer, and fruit wines in Santa Bárbara de Heredia, won three medals - one gold and two bronzes – at the 8th Annual Copa Cervecera del Pacifico, one of the most important craft beer competitions in Mexico.  The award ceremony was held on March 16, 2023 in Ensenada, Baja California.

The 2023 Copa Cervecera del Pacifico competition winners were selected by 47 national and international judges.  There were over 1600 entries from 146 breweries in 11 countries.

Costa Rica Meadery received medals for two beers and one mead.

Gold Medal:   ACERTIJO, Experimental Beer Category.    Acertijo is a "wild ale blend" style beer with honey, victoria eugenia fruit, and Creole corn malt. Fermented with bamboo wood staves and bamboo wild yeast  6% ABV

Bronze Medal:   ECLÉCTICA, Mixed-Style Beer Category.  Ecléctica is a wild ale style beer blended with a mead with black mulberry, kaffir lime, and native corn malt.   5,8% ABV

Bronze Medal:  PASSIFLORA RUM BARREL AGED,  Experimental Mead Category.   A sweet mead with passion fruit aged for 3 years in a rum barrel.  14,5% ABV

"I am thrilled that our experimental beers and meads are being recognized by the international community!  I love using our wild bamboo yeasts, exotic fruits, and unique processes to push the boundaries of beer and mead that we are making in Costa Rica!" said co-owner Alejandra Araya, the fermentologist / head brewer at Costa Rica Meadery.

"One of the goals of Costa Rica Meadery is to promote mead in Latin America.  We believe that mead is a wonderful alcoholic beverage that can feature many of the tropical ingredients of Costa Rica.  Hopefully, these medals will help expose mead to Costa Rican consumers,"  said General Manager and co-owner, Michael Lindeman.
