Cynthia Hilston began her career as an author in 2016 with the publication of her first novel, Hannah's Rainbow: Every Color Beautiful, which was inspired by and based on her late grandma's life. Since then, she has published several novels, The Rock at the Bottom being her eighth, in addition to a collection of short stories.

She wrote this book because she wished to explore in more detail a major character's backstory from the first two novels. Her faith plays an important part in many of her books, so that is why she chose the Christian fiction genre.

Her next novel will be a modern-day clean romance, to be released in mid-2024.
