French Treasury, BEIS and U.S. Department of Energy, Address incoming FDI Screening Changes and More

LONDON, Wales - April 20, 2023 - PRLog -- Foreign Direct Investment transactions are becoming more complex across Europe. Most imminently, the European Commission's Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) will come into effective July 2023, giving it another enforcement tool to review FDI transactions.

"We're seeing extended reviews and a proliferation of new regimes springing up, and we're also seeing increasing discussions around regulation of outbound investment in addition to inbound investment," explains Michele Davis, Partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP. "So, lots of changes, which means it's just an increasingly complex landscape for it for deal makers to have to navigate globally."

To prepare for the incoming changes, C5 will host the 4th Annual European Forum on FDI Reviews and CFIUS taking place at the Hilton London Kensington, this June 7-8, 2023, in London, bringing together international government representatives, industry leaders and legal experts. Ms. Davis and her conference co-chair Dr. Roland Stein discussed why the event is relevant now.

"If it's complex for regulators, it's even more complex for the businesses," explained Dr. Stein, Partner at Blomstein.  "If you are an investor trying to invest in the US, in Europe and Japan, you face all these different rules and all these different concepts arising throughout. And while I think everyone knows what national security is, it's very different from country to country and sometimes even from ministry to ministry."

Ms. Davis and Dr. Stein will co-chair the event with a faculty of government presenters include Michael S. Considine of the U.S. Department of Energy, Jacqui Ward of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), United Kingdom and Pierre Marie Voegeli of the French Treasury, as well as industry leaders and legal experts.
