Mounts Botanical Garden Thanks GL Homes for Donation of 20 Exotic Plants

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - May 5, 2023 - PRLog -- (West Palm Beach, FL – May 4, 2023) Rochelle Wolberg, Curator/Director of Mounts Botanical Garden, today announced that Palm Beach County's oldest and largest botanical garden recently received 20 Alcantarea imperialis bromeliads, a generous gift from GL Homes. The Mounts horticulture team retrieved the beautiful plants and replanted them by the Garden's main entrance.

"Giving back to our community comes in all shapes and sizes. Our philanthropic outreach includes enhancing the lush, tropical landscaping at Mounts Botanical Garden," said GL Homes Senior Director of Community Relations Sarah Alsofrom. "Repurposing our magnificent flora and fauna allows many more people to enjoy its beauty."

"This is not the first time Mounts Botanical has received this type of plant donation, but most are brought to us by community residents, other botanical gardens or plant societies," said Wolberg. "However, when we have a wonderful opportunity like this to procure plants that are a unique specimen in type and/or size and would add beauty and variety to the Garden's tropical landscape, then we are glad to send out our talented 'hort team' for a site-specific retrieval."

"These beautiful bromeliads now make a lovely welcoming statement to our visitors, and Mounts is very grateful to GL Homes—not only for this donation but for preserving and protecting these incredible plants," she added.

Wolberg and her team at Mounts Botanical Garden are occasionally approached by people with questions about donating plants.

"One suggestion is to ask your neighbors if they are interested or have friends who would want the botanicals," advises Wolberg. "Or ask the landscapers working in the neighborhood if they would like them. Certainly, local botanical and public gardens welcome the opportunity to acquire vibrant, unique plants. A last resort would be to put these plant materials on the curb for trash pickup. You'd be surprised how often knowledgeable and discerning plant people will spot these treasures and remove them from the junk pile."
