LANSING, W.Va. - May 8, 2023 - PRLog -- Downey Ridge Environmental Company's rapid expansion of GreasezillaTM fats, oils and grease (FOG) separation and processing systems, is accelerating the recovery of brown grease feedstock for the production of transportation biofuels, including biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Greasezilla's national install base is poised to become the largest brown grease feedstock source for U.S. biofuel production.

Annually, the U.S. generates billions of gallons of FOG waste, sending more than 80 percent of it to landfills. By redirecting this massive waste stream, Greasezilla sites are able to capture and recover an increasingly larger proportion of brown grease while significantly decreasing waste and harmful emissions. Downey Ridge Environmental Company will have 30 installed sites by the end of 2023 and more than 50 locations through 2025, more than doubling the volume of brown grease recovered each year. The company is also focusing on industrial food processing facilities to maximize brown grease recovery at locations known to generate significant quantities of FOG waste.

"Renewable diesel and SAF refineries understand the economics of waste feedstocks," said Brian Levine, EVP, Downey Ridge Environmental Company. "For feedstocks, 'the wastier the better' is now paramount to the industry. Greasezilla extracts brown grease from the FOG waste stream and turns it into a valuable resource for biofuel refineries. In turn, refineries lower their feedstock costs, lower their carbon intensity (CI), increase their return on incentive credits and expand the availability of renewable fuels."

Greasezilla's innovative and ecological process for recovering brown grease has placed Downey Ridge Environmental Company in the center of a dynamic emerging market. As major F100 and G500 fuel companies convert refineries into biofuel facilities, biofeedstock demand is surging. Refineries are turning toward waste feedstocks for their lower cost and lower CI. Greasezilla taps into the massive volume of the grease waste stream to provide a crucial supply of brown grease feedstock that supplements production of cleaner marine, aviation and transportation biofuels.

Less expensive than farm-sourced biofuels and oilseed, brown grease feedstock is sourced from the billions of gallons of grease trap waste produced each year. Greasezilla's FOG separation process ecologically separates the brown grease from the water and solids, resulting in a high-quality, low-moisture, low CI, cost-effective biofuel feedstock. Greasezilla's process not only bolsters the pool of available bio feedstocks, but also helps to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the amount of waste dumped in landfills.

Ron Crosier, President, Downey Ridge Environmental Company, said, "Greasezilla complements efforts to transition into a circular economy. Our growing number of regional hubs are driving sustainability practices for the water infrastructure, resource recovery and landfill mitigation sectors. Greasezilla regionally sources and repurposes an abundant wastestream into renewable resources to support the country's fuel and energy needs. That might make Greasezilla's brown grease the roundest fuel on the market."

Greasezilla is sponsoring Fastmarkets' Biofuels and Feedstocks America 2023 Conference, May 15-17, 2023, in Chicago. Representatives from the company will be meeting with policymakers and executives from major fuel corporations to discuss current trends and future development of biofuels.
