ACC STL Members Volunteered at Veteran's Estate Planning Clinic

ST. LOUIS - May 16, 2023 - PRLog -- March 23 was a day of giving back for the Association of Corporate Counsel – St. Louis members, who eagerly volunteered their legal experience at the Veteran's Estate Planning Clinic. With a mission to provide free legal counsel to veterans and their spouses, the team prepared simple wills, powers of attorney, living wills, and health care directives, all with the aim of ensuring that our nation's heroes receive the support they deserve.

The event was a resounding success, thanks to the dedication and compassion of the 15 ACC STL members, who went above and beyond to help underserved communities and families in the St. Louis area. Their selflessness and commitment to pro bono work was praised by Patricia Duft, Sr. Director, Legal, Medtronic, Inc., and 2023 ACC STL Pro Bono Committee Chairperson.

Before the event, volunteers attended a one-hour webinar to review the estate planning package developed by the Missouri Veterans Commission. The preparation was crucial in ensuring that the team was fully equipped to provide the best possible legal counsel to those who served our country.  The ACC STL Pro Bono committee will be supporting another estate planning clinic later in the year.

Overall, the ACC STL members' efforts at the Veteran's Estate Planning Clinic were a testament to the power of community and the importance of giving back. By preserving access to legal services for those in need, the team not only made a meaningful impact on the lives of veterans, and their families but also enriched their own lives personally and professionally.

This clinic is part of the Missouri Veterans Commission (MVC) commitment to supporting Missouri veterans.  Since June of 2022, the MVC program has served 622 clients and produced 2,223 documents saving Missouri veterans a little over a million dollars in in-kind services.

The Association for Corporate Counsel of St. Louis (ACC STL), the pre-eminent professional development organization serving in-house counsel, was founded in 1987. The St. Louis chapter has more than 630 members who represent more than 100 organizations.
