Follow on Google News | Australian Artist Paula Prentice Wins a Top Prize Portrait Art CompetitionBrisbane, Australia artist, Paula Prentice, garnered a top award in Art and Color 365 Magazine's international portrait art competition.
Prentice's winning entry (left), "Self Portrait," is a 28x22 cm graphite pencil self portrait. The drawing showcases Prentice's ability to convey deep emotion through the close-up depiction of a face. "Faces intrigue me," Prentice says. "We look at a face and see ourselves somehow reflected there. That recognition creates a connection that goes beyond space and time. My self-portraits are my way of communicating with the world and with myself." Prentice's work was recently awarded a solo online exhibition in addition to her Art and Color 365 win. Virginia Bayes, Editor-in-Chief of Art and Color 365 Magazine stated, "We received hundreds of entries in our Portrait Competition. Prentice's drawings captured a winning spot because of her remarkable ability to convey human emotion in black and white graphite pencil drawings; that's a rare gift."
