MILFORD HAVEN, Wales - May 23, 2023 - PRLog -- Thanks to a generous £6k award from Mara Purl, the California-based author of the Milford Haven novels, Milford Haven Museum engaged with local primary and secondary schools in September on an exciting programme of creative writing workshops that will culminate in the publication of a book showcasing their writing and celebrating the concept at the heart of the new curriculum - Cynefin – pride in one's local area. A celebratory book launch will be held at the Ty Hotel Milford Haven on Thursday 22 June.
The pupils' writing was inspired by the Museum's collections, displays about Milford Haven's rich maritime history and Ms Purl's funding covered workshops led by local children's author Nicola Davies and literacy consultant Eva John. The printing of the UK version of the book was made possible by a museum micro-grant from Welsh Government through the charity the Group for Education in Museums and also by the Port of Milford Haven. This work was enabled by the 2-year National Lottery Heritage Fund's resilience grant Milford Haven Museum Future Ready!
Quote from Mara Purl:
"This project came from the heart. The goal was to support and inspire young people in Milford Haven to research and embrace their own rich heritage. What our students have written is a stunningly creative work that is both historical fiction and authentic resonance with those who trod these hills and shorelines before us. This beautiful book will become an important one in the annals of Wales. And it will reach well beyond Welsh borders. Tremendous gratitude to our marvellous team of mentors and teachers, and heartfelt congratulations to our awesome students! I will celebrate and share your work far and wide." https://MaraPurl.com
