Follow on Google News | KOOL KOOR Comes Full Circle with "Timeless" on exhibition through June 25 at SHIN GALLERYComing full circle celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop with his solo show "Timeless," Kool Koor built a journey back in time to his artistic roots, straight past today, and into the future.
By: SHIN Gallery A member of the first generation of New York graffiti artists, Koor is fascinated by the galactic, otherworldly, social notions and uses of language and letters. At the age of 12, the artist began writing and tagging the streets, subways, and architecture in New York City, befriending fellow writers and artists Rammellzee, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Toxic, and Fab 5 Freddy. His previous drawings on paper allowed Koor to explore new mediums and scale, while also illustrating on canvas his exploration of letters and symbols through deconstructions and reimaginations of words and environments. Kool Koor: Timeless celebrates the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and electrifies the entrance of SHIN Gallery with 50 individually painted boom boxes, which play music from the past five eras of Hip Hop music. The exhibition includes a range of work which illustrates the depth of Koors's practice, featuring drawings from the 1980s, symbols and motifs present on plexiglass resin and wood chairs (Timeless One) recently completed in 2023, and works on canvas. Artwork by Rammellzee and Basquiat are also featured in the exhibition, and allow viewers to further understand the shared inspiration and relationships amongst these pioneering artists. Kool Koor: Timeless transports the viewer to the artist's youth via drawings and music from the 1980s, while presenting their connection and continuous influence on Koor in the present, where he expresses himself in the design world. Visit SHIN GALLERY (68 Orchard Street, New York, NY 10002) to experience this transportation, transformation, and the work presented in Kool Koor: Timeless. The exhibition is open until Sunday June 25, 2023. http://www.shin- End
