ProKNX announces measures to protect client data

VALBONNE, France - June 14, 2023 - PRLog -- ProKNX, a small company based in the South of France, have developed a voice-controlled smart speaker that can work completely offline to protect the data of its users.

Their solution, the Aragon system, can work in an isolated system to control smart devices in a building. All analysis of speech and execution of commands are carried out on-device, eschewing the need for any connection to the external internet. Before this development, the realKNX controllers, also developed and marketed by ProKNX, allowed the choice to utilise the controllers with online Alexa or Google Assistant voice controlled assistants, but the company no longer deems that this option is in the best interests of their clients.

Christian Kiefel, CEO of ProKNX, said, "The predominant focus of our company is on privacy, shown by our slogan, 'What's said at home stays at home'. We feel that the privacy policies drawn up for the Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants can cause the data of our clients to be compromised without their permission or knowledge. As we find this unacceptable, we have decided to withdraw our support for the use of these products together with our voice controlled smart speaker."

ProKNX believes that the decision to no longer support Alex or Google Assistant gives their clients numerous advantages. As well as being able to guarantee a more reliable functionality, this choice relieves users of ProKNX devices of their need to be dependent on a 24 hour online service, such as an Alexa skill, to run their smart-home. The capacity of the smart-home to function offline also blocks the access to the home installation of any outside party, which completely protects the system and the data of the end user.

The policy change will take effect from September 1st, 2023. Full customer support will be given to clients with already in place installations to help them navigate this move to a more security-conscious system.
