Follow on Google News | PUMA Development, City of Sugar Land & Colliers announce redevelopment of Imperial SugarBy: Colliers | Houston Project Sugar will be the development project's temporary name until a community engagement process assists the naming of the site. Project Sugar, a mixed-use redevelopment project, will ultimately be comprised of forty acres and will include retail, office, multifamily, and potentially a boutique hotel component. It is important to PUMA and the City of Sugar Land to preserve the site's existing historic buildings which include: the eight-story Char House, the "three-bay" warehouse, the engineering building, the water tower, and the smokestacks of the refinery's old power plant. Although the factory is no longer operational, PUMA and the City of Sugar Land intend to work together to keep its legacy intact as the buildings are repurposed. The Sugar Land Heritage Museum and the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center will continue to operate and educate both visitors and residents on the rich history of Sugar Land at the site. The intent for Project Sugar is to uphold the historic character of the site and its meaning to the Sugar Land community, while also playing a role in strengthening the suburb and its offerings to mirror the rest of Houston's growth. "We believe this historic site in Sugar Land is the perfect place to anchor an experiential community that celebrates the past and is the future," said Mark Toon, CEO of Puma Development.
