TÜV Rheinland expands safety & compliance offerings with ZDHC MRSL 3.1

TSUEN WAN, Hong Kong - June 26, 2023 - PRLog -- In November 2022, Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) released its Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) Version 3.0 and ZDHC MRSL Conformance Guidance 2.0, and in March 2023, ZDHC MRSL was updated to Version 3.1.

TÜV Rheinland is authorized by ZDHC to provide Level 1 to Level 3 testing and certification services as per MRSL Version 3.1. The global textile chemicals industry is now supported from 9 locations for MRSL certifications (Bangkok, Cologne, Dhaka, Gurgaon, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Shanghai, Shenzhen)

Key updates on ZDHC MRSL Version 3.1 include:

• 38 new substances have been added
• Textile chemical categories adjusted from 24 to 27
• Adjustment of the limit values of some restricted substances
• Addition of new restricted substances (aniline, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, ortho-phenylphenol, etc.)
• Updates to the testing methods of some restricted substances
• Addition of candidate list substances

Conformance as per MRSL Version 3.1 is based on ZDHC MRSL Conformance Guidance Version 2.0 The higher the conformance level, the more rigorously the chemical formulation and chemical suppliers' management system have been assessed.

There will be a 12-month transition period after the release of the new ZDHC MRSL version in November 2022, during which chemical products can certified as per both, Version 2.0 and Version 3.1. After November 1, 2023, ZDHC Gateway will only accept chemicals certified for compliance with ZDHC MRSL Version 3.1.

TÜV Rheinland's testing laboratories have been authorized by ZDHC to certify chemical formulations as per Level 1/2/3, in accordance with MRSL Version 3.1. Chemical formulas certified by TÜV Rheinland can be registered and included in the ZDHC GATEWAY™: Chemical Module, so as to support downstream users to have improved InCheck scores and more confidence in chemical management results.
