Black Engineer of the Year Stars and Stripes Scholarship Committee Announces Distinguished Members

BALTIMORE - July 4, 2023 - PRLog -- The Black Engineer of the Year Stars and Stripes Scholarship Committee is proud to announce the esteemed lineup of committee members committed to fostering the education and success of future Black engineers. The committee, comprising distinguished veterans, educators, and professionals, provides scholarships and mentorship to young, aspiring engineers.

Leading the committee is Lt. Gen. (Ret) Darrell Williams, President of Hampton University, who brings to the table a wealth of leadership experience and a passion for education.

As an ex-officio member, Vice Adm. (Ret) Andy Winns, USN, provides a voice of experience and wisdom, having dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving our nation.

Dr. Chris Jones, 2016 BEYA Engineer of the Year, is an integral member of the committee. As a NGC Executive and former USAF service member, he brings a unique perspective on the intersection of service and engineering.

Vice Adm. (Ret) Mel Williams Jr., USN, and Rear Adm. (Ret) Dr. Sylvia Trent-Adams, USN, further bolster the committee with their service backgrounds and extensive leadership experience. Dr. Trent-Adams, in particular, contributes a rich background in public health service and currently serves as the President of the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

The committee also welcomes Secretary Craig Crenshaw, MG (Ret.), as the BEYA Stars & Stripes Pre-dinner Mentoring Chairman. His commitment to mentoring aspiring engineers embodies the spirit of the committee.

Additionally, Brigadier General (Ret) Velma Richardson, USA, founder of BEYA Stars and Stripes, brings her visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to uplifting Black engineers.

Finally, the committee is rounded out by Mr. Matt Bowman, BEYA Stars & Stripes Chief of Staff, and Mrs. Kwan Hurst, CCG, Inc. Chief Operating Officer. Their operational and strategic guidance will drive the committee's success.

This committed team will work diligently to provide promising students with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities they need to excel in the field of engineering.
