AfterGlow Chorus to Perform Special Commemorative Concert Honoring Emanuel Nine

"Love Is Stronger Than Hate: Remembering Charleston 2015" will be performed on Sunday, August 6th and August 13th at 4 pm
OAKLAND, Calif. - July 26, 2023 - PRLog -- A very special, powerful concert by AfterGlow Chorus will honor and commemorate the heart-breaking, inspirational events at Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, SC in June 2015. On June 17, 2015, a white racist man murdered nine church members at the end of their weekly Bible study as they began their prayer.

"Love Is Stronger Than Hate: Remembering Charleston 2015" will be performed on Sunday, August 6th at First Presbyterian Church in Oakland, CA, and again on August 13th at Church of All Faiths in Oakland.

This concert program is inspired by Chris Singleton's incredible story and message that "Love Is Stronger Than Hate." Chris's mother Sharonda Coleman-Singleton was one of the nine people murdered during the closing prayer of a Bible study at Mother Emanuel Church. The day after his mother's murder, Chris Singleton attended a vigil where he spontaneously forgave the killer.

Nine days after the shooting, President Barack Obama delivered one of the greatest speeches of our lifetimes eulogizing the Rev. Clementa Pinckney and unexpectedly singing "Amazing Grace."

Since 2015, Chris Singleton has turned his personal pain into purpose. Chris is now a nationally renowned, inspirational speaker with a message of resilience, forgiveness, and unity following the loss of his mother. Chris has shared his message with hundreds of companies, non-profit organizations, and schools annually. Well-known companies include: Boeing, Medallia, The Houston Texans, Microsoft, Biogen, Volvo, and The Washington Wizards. Chris has also spoken to over 150,000 students and educators across the world.

The concert will feature a wide selection of music from many different genres and artists, The program will explore a broad range of complex emotions, including grief, anger, hope, and healing.

Some of the selections include the "Dies Irae" from Mozart's Requiem, Jennifer Hudson's "Bleed for Love" (a beautiful and emotional ballad about enduring love from the movie "Winnie Mandela"), "Hear My Prayer" (a spiritual by Moses Hogan which is a reverent and moving prayer of hope), and Beyonce's "Freedom" (a powerful anthem about overcoming racism and oppression).

On July 22, there was a groundbreaking ceremony for a memorial honoring these nine members of Mother Emanuel Church, and the five people who survived the attack.
