Homelessness: A Community Problem That Needs Community Solutions

RICHMOND, Ky. - Aug. 4, 2023 - PRLog -- Homelessness - A Community Problem That Needs Community Solutions

It is a problem that is all too familiar in our communities. We see them every day, walking the streets, begging for change. They are the homeless, and according to a new report from the National Alliance to End Homelessness, their numbers are on the rise.

In 2016, there were an estimated 549,928 homeless people in the United States. That is an increase of 0.7 percent from 2015. And while the overall number of homeless people has remained relatively stable over the past few years, the number of homeless families has continued to rise.

There are many factors that contribute to homelessness. Lack of affordable housing, poverty, mental illness, and addiction are just some of the issues that can lead to someone losing their home.

And while there is no one-size-fits-all solution to the problem of homelessness, there are things that can be done to help. Providing affordable housing and access to mental health and addiction services are two of the most effective ways to reduce homelessness.

But it will take more than just government action to solve this problem. It will take a community effort. We all need to do our part to help those who are struggling to get by.

So the next time you see someone begging for change, remember that they are not just a homeless person. They are someone's son or daughter, brother or sister, mother or father. They are someone who deserves our help and our compassion.
