Prof. Ihsan Ur Rahim highlighted the importance of critical thinking in the existing curriculum and advocated for promoting creativity and critical thinking in the development of educational programs. Dr. Vivekanand from Tharparkar discussed the crucial linkages between sustainability and entrepreneurship, shedding light on their vital roles in shaping a sustainable future.
Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Ahmad, the Chief Executive of GSISD, welcomed all participants to the webinar and highlighted its common purpose - to promote scientific thinking, nurture critical minds, and eradicate dogmatic thought processes in favor of innovation and sustainable development. The challenges faced in the 21st century demand a paradigm shift from conventional dogmatic thinking towards embracing open-mindedness and imaginative problem-solving.
Innovation and sustainable development are the cornerstones of progress, requiring the ability to question, reason, and challenge norms. However, hybrid regimes around the world, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia, have hindered development by suppressing critical thinking and scientific inquiry.
Dr. Shakeel emphasized three fundamental skills for progress and sustainability - critical thinking, communication, and creativity. Critical thinking allows individuals to question assumptions, challenge the status quo, and analyze problems from various perspectives. Effective communication serves as a bridge to connect critical thinkers with the world, fostering an environment where ideas can flourish and evolve. Creativity, the driving force behind innovation, empowers individuals to imagine and create what does not yet exist, leading to transformative advancements.
While promoting criticality and independent thought, it is essential to avoid indoctrination in educational settings by incorporating ethical considerations to ensure safeguarding the environment, societies, and future generations. The journey towards harmonizing critical minds also involves nurturing imaginations and celebrating diverse thought. Education should go beyond mere adherence to objective standards, encouraging curiosity, imagination, and critical thinking in students.Embracing diverse perspectives and cultural richness fosters progress and drives positive change on pressing issues such as climate change, poverty, and inequality.
Participants of the webinar unanimously agreed that nurturing these qualities in education, policy-making, and societal norms can lead to profound positive impacts on the world's progress. Embracing a more open and flexible approach to problem-solving can inspire groundbreaking solutions to global issues.
