World Premiere of Short Film "Us & In Between" in Oscar Qualifying Competition at HollyShorts 2023Official Selection at HollyShorts 2023 marks the film's festival debut.
By: Flyer Films Ltd. Us & in Between is a love story between two new lovers in their sunset years, struggling with the realities of old age and loss of independence, told in the style of a coming-of-age romcom. With wit, passion and a youthful spirit, Agnes and Eddie explore questions of sexual citizenship, intimacy and the increasing pressures being placed upon our institutions. The film is a celebration of love and humanity in older age and is based upon Katia's own observations from growing up surrounded by her young-of-heart grandmother. "What she couldn't pursue when she was young, she did later in life. She volunteered at retirement homes with residents younger than herself, learned Latin at the age of 79 and strongly believed in the power of first love. Us & in Between is inspired by her romanticism, vitality and rebellious spirit," said Shannon. Made in association with Resource Productions and financed by the BFI x Network Short Film Fund, Us & In Between is lensed by BSC-Nominated Tristan Chenais (What If?, Amundsen, Edicius), produced by Gareth Brown and Amanda Dorsett with music by Tyler Brown, Lucinda Fosker, Palladian and Delachute. The film will premiere on August 15th 2023 at 12:00pm PDT at the 19th HollyShorts Film Festival, leading the "Golden Age" programme, TCL Chinese Theatre #6, Hollywood.
