Follow on Google News | New Children's Book "The King and The Monster" Delicately Explains Addiction To ChildrenBy: BooksByKathi.com New Children's Book Delicately Tackles The Theme of Addiction Stroudsburg, PA
While The King and The Monster: Let's Talk About Addiction echoes experiences from author Kathi Lockwood's own life, she said that book ideas rarely come to her while sitting behind a desk. "They come while you're in the shower, or while you're riding your bike, or while you're doing the dishes," Kathi explained. After the idea for The King and The Monster came to her, the Stroudsburg resident experienced an episode of writer's block. "I had the premise of the book, but I wasn't exactly sure how to write it in a compassionate way for children," she said. But while on a flight with her 4 year old granddaughter asleep on her lap, it came to her, all at once; the story of a King who had a shadow on his heart that made him want to go to a quicksand pit to distract himself from the discomfort the shadow made him feel. Once at the pit, a monster came out, at first pretending to be his friend. Later, it changed the way he behaved to his wife, the queen, and to his children. After he realized what was happening, a guardian angel helped him to leave his family, which was very hard to do, to go to "the healing place" with the aid of helpers. Kathi, a sort of modern day, female Mister Rogers, relishes themes that help guide children and families, with the intention of inspiring and nourishing healthy children who go on to eventually become healthy adults. Kathi will be reading from her book on Saturday, August 9th from 1-3pm at Moravian Book Shop in Bethlehem, PA. She will also attend the Independent Authors Book Expo on September 30th at Keane University. For more about Kathi and her books, visit BooksByKathi.com. End
