Follow on Google News | Acme Bicycles Closing Its Doors After Twenty Two YearsBy: Conecto The history of Acme Bicycles is deeply intertwined with the Schones family's passion for cycling, spanning three generations. It all began in the mid-1960s when Pete Schones' grandfather, Ferenc Barvik, took the bold step of opening Denver's first professional bike shop, igniting a lifelong legacy. In 1984. Pete's parents continued this tradition and opened their own bike shop, passing down their love for cycling to the next generation. Pete Schones' own journey in the cycling industry began in 1984 when he immersed himself in honing his repair and maintenance skills at the esteemed Barnett Bicycle Institute. Building on his family's legacy, he took a pivotal role with a national bicycle parts supplier, frequently visiting bike shops in his territory. These experiences offered him invaluable insights into the key factors that contribute to a successful bicycle shop. In 2001, with a wealth of knowledge and a profound appreciation for his family's cycling heritage, Pete found the perfect location to establish Acme Bicycles in Longmont, Colorado. From its inception, the shop has been a celebration of cycling's timeless enjoyment and a tribute to his decorated grandfather, Ferenc Barvik, a record holding member of the Hungarian National Team. Throughout its twenty-two year journey, Acme Bicycles has been the heart of the Longmont cycling community, offering an extensive selection of high-quality bicycle products and exceptional repair services. The decision to close Acme Bicycles was not made lightly, but with the lease on the building ending in November and after 39 years in the Bicycle Industry the time to retire is now. Nevertheless, the memories created, the friendships formed, and the impact on Longmont's cycling community will forever be cherished. As a final farewell and a gesture of appreciation, Acme Bicycles will be hosting a farewell sale, offering exclusive discounts on select products. This will be an opportunity not only to own premium cycling gear but also to be a part of the cherished history of Acme Bicycles. Acme will be closing its doors on 10/28/23. Pete Schones and the entire Acme Bicycles family extend their deepest gratitude to the Longmont community for their unwavering support throughout the years. It is the end of an era, but the spirit of family cycling and the memories created at Acme Bicycles will live on in the hearts of the many lives it has touched.
