CALDWELL, N.J. - Aug. 17, 2023 - PRLog -- Graduate cross country and track and field star Ana Gonzalez Martin (Toledo, España) has been selected by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) as its co-nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year, the league announced today. Gonzalez Martin, an all-conference performer in track and field and cross country who also competed in basketball during her Caldwell career, was chosen by the CACC along with Holy Family track standout Shania Le Maitre to represent the Conference on the National ballot, from among the nominees submitted from the 13 member schools following the 2022-23 academic year.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Gonzalez Martin, a multiple CACC and Collegiate Sports Communicators (CSC) All-Academic selection in all three sports, holds school records in the 3000-meter run, 3000-meter steeplechase, 5000-meter run and 10,000 meter run.

The biology major served as captain of all three teams, demonstrating leadership through multiple volunteer programs, including Habitat for Humanity, CARITA Toledo, Run for North Caldwell, online tutoring, Greater Boston Food Bank, Jared Box Project, as well as serving as a Student Athlete Mentor and conducting community service at local elementary schools in the Caldwell area.

"We are extremely proud of Ana and what she has meant to Caldwell Athletics and the entire campus community in her years here," said Heather Arabitg, Caldwell assistant athletic director for sports medicine/head athletic trainer & senior women's administrator. "She represents the hard work and dedication that so many student-athletes put into their college careers, and we are grateful to the CACC for recognizing her efforts."

Softball senior Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) was also a Caldwell nominee for the program, which permits two nominations if one is for an international student, as was the case with Gonzalez Martin. Grundhauser, a First Team All-CACC and All-Tournament selection this year, was an NFCA Second Team All-Region pick at second base in 2023 and at third base last year. She hit six home runs and drove in 28 this season with a slashline of .395/.441/.634. She also stole nine bases and hit for the cycle in a win over St. Thomas Aquinas on April 14.

Later this fall, the national Top 30 honorees and nine finalists will be announced. The 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at the 2024 NCAA Convention in Phoenix.
