Local Nonprofit Hosts Overnight Camp for Pediatric Cancer Patients and Survivors

Camp Casco welcomes childhood cancer survivors back for its seventh annual summer camp

GROTON, Mass. - Aug. 17, 2023 - PRLog -- Camp Casco, a nonprofit organization offering free camps and socials for
childhood cancer patients, survivors, and siblings in New England, is preparing to welcome its largest group of campers ever for their seventh annual Overnight Camp in Groton, MA, from August 21-25th.

Camp Casco's Overnight Camp, the organization's cornerstone program, is a free week-long camp for cancer patients and survivors ages 7-17. At Overnight Camp, campers experience the magic of summer while making life-long connections with other kids who understand pediatric cancer's unique challenges. The camp includes traditional activities like swimming, water fights, and archery, as well as special themed activities that change yearly. Camp Casco's Overnight Camp is provided free-of-cost, including meals and snacks, nearly 1:1 counselor-to-camper supervision, and onsite medical professionals. After resuming in-person programs in 2022 without a single COVID outbreak, 98% of 2022 campers applied to return in 2023. While the annual event closes out the 2023 summer season, all campers and families will have the chance to be reunited at Camp Casco's annual holiday party in December.

"Overnight Camp is an incredible opportunity for kids to spend time with peers who have been through similar challenges with cancer in a safe and supportive environment," said Erin Fletcher Stern, CEO and founder of Camp Casco. "Throughout the week, we focus on creating meaningful connections through epic activities, team-building challenges, and just being silly together. We are thrilled to welcome our largest group of campers yet to Overnight
Camp in 2023, and are so grateful to our generous partners for helping us meet the increasing demand. We hope to continue expanding capacity in future years!" This year's Overnight Camp is graciously supported by the Sudbury Foundation, whose grant provides meals, bus transportation, and camp supplies; and Cummings Foundation, whose
support fully funds ten spaces for campers based in the Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk counties for four years.

Overnight Camp is one of Camp Casco's three summer programs. Camp Casco hosts a week-long day camp for pediatric cancer patients, survivors, and siblings and a unique getaway designed specifically for siblings of kids who have been diagnosed with cancer. Each camp is hosted at a different Massachusetts campsite and is free for all campers.
