ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Aug. 18, 2023 - PRLog -- Two joint practices between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions leading up to Saturday's NFL preseason matchup are in the books.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said getting out of Northeast Florida in 100-degree temperature is good for the team. Pederson and Detroit head coach Dan Campbell set the ground rules for the two days of joint practices wanting to get some good solid work in and have the clubs compete against each other.

During 7-on-7 red-zone drills, Zay Jones had multiple touchdowns for Jacksonville during the early period.

Jacksonville's Calvin Ridley, Jones and Evan Engram had big receptions during the team period, Quarterback Trevor Lawrence connect with Ridley for three completions, out of four plays that were run in the drill.

"I think the biggest thing is getting a chance to go against a different look, a different presentation and different guys," said head coach Doug Pederson. "We've been going against our own guys now for about three weeks. It's just refreshing to be able to have a different perspective from a quarterback's eyes. This will not only be good for Trevor but for C.J. [QB C.J. Beathard] and Nate [QB Nathan Rourke] as well."

Rookie Detroit linebacker Jack Campbell made a play on running back JaMycal Hasty. Tensions boiled over, and the two teams gathered near the Jaguars' sideline.

"It was nothing, man, just football," Hasty said following practice.

The Jacksonville offense got the opportunity to work against Detroit defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, a top 2023 NFL Draft pick.

"He's a great player. We did our due diligence and really studied him and all the other top edge rushers last year," added Pederson. "The way he came out and played in our game last year and the way he had nine and a half sacks I believe last year. Just a great performance for a young player and the sky is the limit, he's going to continue to get better, and he really makes that defense a little more solid."

Jaguars Injury Report (www.jaguars.com): Defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot (Achilles) remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list to start camp…long snapper Ross Matiscik (shoulder) remained out of practice after being injured in Preseason Week 1 last Saturday….defensive lineman Foley Fatukasi, safety Antonio Johnson and offensive tackle Josh Wells all were ruled out for Saturday's game after sustaining unidentified injuries in practice Wednesday…Harrison practiced limited Thursday, working early in individual work and missing team drills.
