Families Fighting Flu Announce Plans For The 2023-24 Flu Season

CHICAGO - Sept. 20, 2023 - PRLog -- At the annual gathering of the Board of Directors of Families Fighting Flu (FFF), a national non-profit with a mission to save lives and reduce hospitalizations by protecting children, families and communities against influenza announced outreach plans for the 2023-24 flu season.

With the ultimate goal of getting more people vaccinated against the flu, FFF plans an aggressive media outreach campaign to share stories of those who have been most impacted by the flu—and to remind Americans why getting your annual flu shot is so important.

Families Fighting Flu's Board of Directors is unique, in that each member of the board has a personal story about the impact that flu has had on their family.

"With another year with predictions of flu and other viruses potentially hitting the U.S. hard, and with the reality of vaccine fatigue, it's more important than ever that we get our voices out in the public space so that no family has to go through the unnecessary loss of a loved one to a preventable disease," said Gary Stein, President of the Board of Directors.

In addition to setting the stage for outreach this flu season, the board of directors also voted to appoint Jeb Teichman, MD, a former pediatrician, and health care executive as a new board member. Dr. Teichman lost his 29-year-old otherwise healthy son, Brent to influenza in 2019.

"As a long-time pediatrician, and my wife a nurse, we always urged our family to get flu shots and take other preventative measures.  Getting the flu shot was on Brent's to-do list, but unfortunately, he was exposed to the flu before that—and in just a matter of days succumbed to the disease.  I am honored to join the board of Families Fighting Flu to help in sharing Brent's story, and that of the other families who have been impacted by this disease," Dr. Teichman said.
