In Good Company Unveils a Sanctuary for Spiritual Growth

Founded by the contemplative Gina Norman, In Good Company is dedicated to fostering safe, authentic, and hospitable healing spaces for individuals on their spiritual journeys.

With 15 years of contemplative experience, Gina Norman, the visionary founder of In Good Company, brings a wealth of wisdom to her practice. Embracing a "with God" life, Norman has learned the art of being present to the Divine, transforming contemplation into an accessible and enriching experience. In addition to her contemplative journey, Norman holds a certificate in spiritual direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary, enhancing her ability to guide individuals on their spiritual paths.

"I'm enthusiastic about establishing a fresh avenue for mental wellness focused on spiritual direction. Presently, in our society, spiritual direction lacks the same recognition, prevalence, and acceptance as counseling. Yet, the value we provide is just as significant. I've observed the considerable workload and respect accorded to Chaplains, often leading to a high burnout rate. As spiritual directors, we can share some of that burden. Our capabilities extend to many of the tasks Chaplains undertake, particularly outside the typical institutional settings where they are commonly found. We can work together to make a positive impact."

With more than a decade of experience as a lay counselor, Gina Norman has devoted herself to assisting others in navigating life's intricate challenges. According to her, "While spiritual direction might be unfamiliar to some, it's important to understand that it doesn't substitute counseling; rather, it fulfills a distinct role in supporting individuals with their mental well-being. Unlike a counselor, who is trained to provide answers, a spiritual director is skilled in responding to the one posing the questions. Sessions flow organically, devoid of any fixed or rote structure. In contrast to pastors or counselors who may assert certainties in belief or dogma, a spiritual director finds solace in the uncertainties of belief, yet points people to their best selves."

With her approach centered around deep listening, empathy, and compassion, Norman helps individuals explore new options in life, offering fresh perspectives in confusing and painful situations. Spiritual Direction, as she describes it, is about "seeing something in a new way."
