Historic Deal Ends SAG-AFTRA Strike, Resumes Film/TV Production

BOSTON - Nov. 10, 2023 - PRLog -- After a grueling 118-day strike, the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has reached a tentative 3-year agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Valued at over $1 billion, the deal provides key protections surrounding the use of AI, increased streaming residuals, and minimum salary bumps across the board.

This historic agreement brings relief to the entertainment industry after months of labor strife that had disrupted major film and television productions. With the strike now over, SAG-AFTRA members can return to work on sets with improved terms that address concerns over emerging technologies like AI-generated content.

"This deal recognizes the contributions of actors and performers in an evolving digital landscape," said SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris. "We secured important gains while keeping members' best interests at the forefront through challenging negotiations."

AMPTP Spokesperson Jarryd Gonzales also expressed optimism, saying "This agreement allows the industry to restart and revitalize production after the most devastating pandemic in modern history, and we look forward to collaborating with SAG-AFTRA on efforts to shape the future of the entertainment business."

With film production losses estimated at $1.7 billion over the course of the strike, producers are eager to resume projects and make up for lost time. The boosted streaming residuals and minimums provide actors and performers the protections needed as media consumption continues shifting to online platforms.

As part of the tentative deal, the union has called off its strike authorization and ordered members to return to work immediately. The SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors will soon meet to review terms and vote on final approval.
