Kuester Management Group Shares Tips for Planning for a New Year in the HOA

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Dec. 8, 2023 - PRLog -- As 2023 winds down, homeowners associations are gearing up for an eventful 2024. It is a new beginning and an opportunity to put meaningful changes in place that will benefit homeowners and the community as a whole. "A perfect place to start is reflecting on what went well over the previous year and what did not," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "Were there a lot of violation notices for the same issue? Were there multiple complaints from members about specific problems or praise for things they enjoyed?"

Gather member feedback to plan out upcoming projects and events for the new year, and also to look at rule changes, says Kuester. These things take time, so figure out how to delegate tasks and put together timelines to stay on track. Try to schedule out meetings, activities, and deadlines in advance and put them on a community calendar or board member calendar.

Set goals for the new year as well. What does the board want to accomplish? This could be anything from improving communication to starting a community garden to transitioning to digital records. Create measurable goals and actionable plans to achieve them. This is where committees can be helpful in taking on some of these tasks.

Double check that all year-end closeout tasks have been completed. Finalize any reports, budgets, and accounting, then start compiling records that will be needed to file taxes. It is a good idea to put everything together while it is readily available.

"Changes don't have to be monumental," says Kuester. "Start small and go from there. Also remember that you don't have to do everything all at once, that you can spread things out throughout the year."
