New National Park Book Series Launched By Local Teacher-Turned-Author

BEAVER DAM, Wis. - Dec. 13, 2023 - PRLog -- A new children's book series is looking to inspire families to adventure and get outside. Strong Girls Travel: AJ's Adventures at Indiana Dunes is the first book in the only national park series to feature a girl's point of view. Amy Friedl founded Strong Girls Travel to share real-life adventure stories online, and in November 2023, launched the first interactive children's book for ages 7-12. The book is available online with major retailers and at select independent bookstores.

Amy Friedl is a former teacher who left education to pursue writing and adventure after seeing how healing the outdoors could be for one's body and mind. Sitting on a roadside wall at Glacier National Park in 2021, she told her family, "Every little girl should know that she can get out there and make safe, strong choices in her own bold adventure." By 2023, Strong Girls Travel was an online energy, sharing stories of women conquering their brave, intimidating goals. After discovering Pennsylvania-based illustrator Drew Clark, the two took to creating books that appealed to older readers with an interest in photos-turned-illustrations. Each book will contain an "Adventure Checklist" for families to pursue their own adventure when they visit the national park.

Amy spent 18 months adventuring at 72 Wisconsin state parks, forests, and recreational areas to meet her own goals. As she hiked and kayaked, she changed and grew through the lessons that the world had to teach her. Those lessons reveal themselves through the Strong Girls Travel series as well, working to instill in girls a sense of confidence, boldness, conservation, and peace. Amy has also visited all but three national parks east of the Mississippi River and has plans to complete a book for each of those parks over the next few years.
