"It's Russell's Birthday today and I grieve for my mother and father, who lost their first born," said Damon Batiste, founder of NOSACONN, Inc. (New Orleans, South Africa Connection). "The shock of finding my brother at home, lifeless is still with me, but the determination of keeping Russell's legacy alive for his children, all our family and the world is ever strong. The oldest of three children of Patricia (Cummings) Batiste and Louisiana Hall of Fame musician, David Russell Batiste Sr., David Russell Batiste Jr. was born in New Orleans on December 12, 1965. His parents divorced in the early 1970's. He was brought up in "NOLA's Royal Family of Music," a musical family filled with the treasure of talent and a large number of musicians, Batiste started playing drums at the age of four.
