Follow on Google News | Engage by Cell Partners with Suriname Indigenous Health Fund to Launch "Victim's Voice"A mobile data submission and management platform for indigenous health initiatives
By: Engage by Cell Victim's Voice is designed to tackle critical health challenges faced by the Wayana People in the Wayana Language Territory between Suriname, French Guiana, and Brazil. The platform focuses on mercury poisoning, trafficking, malnutrition, and mental health concerns. As users self-submit health issues through personal phones, the anonymous data is made public to attract attention from international entities such as the Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank, governments of Suriname, France, and Brazil, the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and relevant G7 and G20 working groups. Dr. Daniel Peplow, Co-Director of SIHFund says, "Access to cell phone technology has been the single most influential factor facilitating indigenous people's ability to advocate for their rights." Victim's Voice is a step towards creating a supportive environment for the Wayana People and a model that can be adapted from similar communities facing unique health challenges. Engage by Cell Founder and CEO David Asheim says, "We are enormously proud to have been awarded this opportunity, and to create accountability for the serious situation in the Wayana Language Territory. Partnering with SIHFund strengthens our commitment to leveraging technology for positive social impact."
