Local SIERRA CLUB Solicits PAC Donations to Support Pro-Environment Candidates

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Jan. 23, 2024 - PRLog -- (Palm Beach County, FL – January 22, 2024) The Loxahatchee Group of the Sierra Club Florida Chapter is inviting friends and supporters to donate to the nonprofit organization's political action committee. The purpose of the Sierra Club PAC is to elect candidates to city and county offices who share "our values of clean air, water, and energy."

"Florida's environment is in trouble," declares Gary Landau and Patricia Edmonson, Co-Chairs of the Loxahatchee Group's Political Committee. "Algae blooms in our waters, towns are choked by smoke and ash from burning sugar cane, and panthers and manatees are on the tragic road to extinction."

Within just the last few months, however, it was pressure from the Sierra Club and other community groups that led four County Commissioners—both Democrats and Republicans—to vote against permitting 1,200 mega-mansions to be built in the protected farmlands of the Agricultural Reserve.

This was just one small victory in the never-ceasing battle against greedy developers in South Florida. In fact, legislation is still pending in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties on other development projects endangering fragile environments.

"Generous contributions to the local Sierra Club PAC will help us to strategically elect environmental champions, which is even more crucial as we face the growing impact of both climate change and population growth," adds the co-chairs. "Together, we can defeat the corporate-backed politicians that oppose renewable energy, support urban sprawl, and ignore the peril of increased air and water pollution."
