Climate Change Initiatives for Underserved Communities in East San Jose and Gilroy, CA

SAN JOSE, Calif. - March 18, 2024 - PRLog -- The Tenacious Group is excited to share the news of the creation of the Santa Clara County Resilience Hub Collaborative (SCCRHC), which also includes, CARAS (Community Agency for Resources, Advocacy, and Services), Greenbelt Alliance and Ashes to Beauty. We are privileged to have been granted the Strategic Growth Council's Community Resilience Center Planning Grant. "Out of 187 proposals submitted to the State of California Strategic Growth Council, only 11 were chosen." Adam Ybarra, as Executive Director of The Tenacious Group, underscored, "This represents a remarkable milestone for the East San Jose and Gilroy communities, symbolizing a joint triumph that heralds positive change and advancement."

This grant will enable the SCCRHC to spearhead climate solutions in East San Jose and Gilroy. Our focus is to bridge the gap between disadvantaged communities and address the long-term adverse effects of climate change through education, engagement, and empowerment. Marty Estrada, CARAS's Director of Community Development, affirmed, "We are dedicated to amplifying the voices of those often marginalized in climate decision-making, empowering them to shape the future of their communities."

Our collaborative effort will leverage climate risk data, social vulnerability factors, and environmental indicators to pinpoint priority engagement hubs for resilience action. With stakeholders from city and county agencies, local utilities, community-based organizations, and residents of targeted communities, we aim to break down silos, foster widespread support, and expand local resources.

Together, the SCCRHC is committed to cultivating a more equitable and sustainable future for East San Jose and Gilroy communities.
