FORT MYERS, Fla. - March 14, 2024 - PRLog -- The Lee Health Foundation honored Dr. Arie Dosoretz with the Phoenix Award at the nonprofit's annual Cancer Care Hero Awards celebration.

The Phoenix Award recognizes a community member who, through education or development of new resources, has contributed to reshaping cancer care in Southwest Florida. Dosoretz was presented the award at the Foundation's Lee Health Cancer Institute Fashion Show, which was held March 12 at Heritage Palms Golf & Country Club.

Dosoretz, a native of Fort Myers, is a founding partner of Advocate Radiation Oncology and Southwest Florida Proton. He is board certified in radiation oncology through the American Board of Radiology and a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology and American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dosoretz earned a joint Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Wharton School of Business, and completed his residency at Yale University's New Haven Hospital, Department of Therapeutic Radiology. After returning to Fort Myers, he practiced as a physician and worked in clinical administration, directing physician recruitment and overseeing clinical operations and quality.

In 2019, he founded Advocate Radiation Oncology, which today includes eight cancer treatment centers that feature world-class physicians, cutting-edge technology and compassionate care. Dosoretz also is leading efforts to build Southwest Florida Proton in Estero, where physicians will deliver proton therapy, an advanced form of radiation therapy that uses charged proton particles to destroy cancer cells. When it opens in 2025, Southwest Florida Proton will be the only proton therapy center on Florida's west coast.

In 2023, Dosoretz was awarded the Scientific Achievement Award through the Lee County Medical Society Foundation for outstanding work in scientific medical research, which includes basic science and clinical research. Advocate Radiation Oncology also was honored with the organization's Health Education Award in recognition of physicians' public health education activities. Additionally, United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades recently recognized Advocate Radiation Oncology as a top WeCare corporate partner for 2023, when its physicians provided pro bono services valued at $394,607 to 24 uninsured patients who could not otherwise afford lifesaving treatments.
