A. Philip Randolph Institute Las Vegas Elects New Leadership Team

LAS VEGAS - April 4, 2024 - PRLog -- A. Philip Randolph Institute Las Vegas (APRI), an organization of black trade unionists whose mission is the pursuit of social, political and economic justice for all working Americans recently elected a new leadership team. The election was held at AFL CIO's Central Labor Council office in East Las Vegas on March 28.

"It is more than an honor to represent the legacy of APRI," said Guy Dawson, the newly elected President of APRI Las Vegas. "The sacrifices that A. Philip Randolph and many others made while seeking racial justice and economic equality for African Americans should not be forgotten. As a second-generation union member, I am also aware that worker's rights advocacy is as necessary today as it has ever been."

"Our organization is committed to pursuing the interests of the black community, the labor movement and local unions."

APRI Las Vegas' slate of new officers and the unions they represent include Dawson, IATSE Local 720, Vice President Lionel Campbell, UA Local 525, Treasurer Beverly Williams, Teamsters Local 986, Secretary, Evelyn Pacheco, UA Local 525, Trustee, Rob Sumlin, IAM Local 825, Trustee Randy Soltero IATSE Local 720 and Trustee Debbie Springer, SEIU Local 1107

James Bryant, the Southwest Regional Director of APRI called the election "a very special moment for Nevada."

"Rekindling APRI's presence in Nevada will have a big impact on the next election," he said. "The work that APRI Las Vegas will do to educate, register and encourage voter participation could dramatically impact the trajectory of this country."

As an AFL- CIO Constituency Group, APRI Las Vegas is a bridge between unions and diverse communities, creating and strengthening partnerships to enhance the standard of living for all workers and their families.  They also support the full participation of women and minorities in the union movement and ensure unions hear and respond to the concerns of the communities they represent.
