Newsies Musical Performance In Leander, Tx

LEANDER, Texas - April 4, 2024 - PRLog -- ABOUT: Three local casts bring history to life in incredible tap, dance, and musical rendition of David and Goliath like historical strike of July, 1899 in response to Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raising distribution price on newspapers for poor, exploited newsboys. The show's theme includes the fight for social justice, mistreatment of child labor, and having the strength to stand up to oppression.

Leander/Austin, TX – Newsies, Tony Award-Winning Broadway score adaptation is a must see. The last performance at local church gym turned multi-level stage performance venue. Director Emily Calasopa. Musical Director, Jacob Horton. Single tickets go on sale Friday, April 5, 2024.

Executive Artistic Director Emily Calasopa explains, "the Newsies theme is special to SOPA because we believe helping others (with stage presence, technical needs, stage and technical crew leadership, teamwork, conflict resolution, alongside vocal, dance and acting) is instrumental in building confidence and strength of character that can change the trajectory in lives of our youth, adults, and volunteers in a positive and productive direction. This production provides a practical application to our discussions and training." SOPA is all abilities/ages, educational performing arts organization. All cast members participate in 10-week session of classes, vocal, acting and dance auditions and callbacks, then 8 weeks rehearsals.

ABOUT: Shine On Performing Arts is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization serving families in Leander, Cedar Park, Round Rock, Georgetown, Kyle, Dripping Spring, Manor, Taylor, Harker Heights, Killeen, Bastrop and Austin. With a desire to offer space to CREATE, grow, and learn through educational classes, camps and individual instruction, striving to INSPIRE all participants in the area of the arts to SHINE together. Equipped with a belief that everyone has the potential to be a leader, there is hope in what is possible, regardless of limitations. SOPA's goal is to build up the soul and facilitate growth in the areas that are not shining their brightest. Students find opportunities to learn, then lead, both on and off stage. Beginner level classes and Student Productions advance to Main Stage Productions and introduction to pre-professional training as SOPA seeks to expand the arts in the Greater Austin area.
