By: Indianapolis Public Relations Society Fouts retired in 2022 after more than four decades in the Indianapolis public relations industry. The last ten years of her career she served as vice president of marketing and development at the International Center. Prior to that, she was public relations and corporate advertising manager at Melvin Simon & Associates, where she developed several award-winning institutional advertising campaigns. She began her career as a public relations associate at Ruben, Montgomery & Associates (later known as MZD Advertising) executive director of the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana. A graduate of Warren Central High School, Fouts earned a bachelor's degree in English and Spanish from Butler University. She graduated summa cum laude and earned first-place honors in the John Chapman Miller public speaking competition. As an alumna, she served for eight years on Butler's Board of Visitors. "Billie's contributions to our community and the public relations industry have left an indelible mark on our discipline," public relations, our community and, most of all, storytelling has brought significant value to our discipline. She is a true legend in every sense of the word." The Indy PR Legend Award was first presented in 2008 to James R. Hetherington, a long-time Indianapolis journalist and public relations executive. Subsequent honorees have been Robert L. Gildea, Myra Borshoff, Carl Henn, Ann Rein, Gretchen Wolfram, Donna Mikels Shea, Bob Dittmer, Lou Gerig, Bill Benner and David Sease. End
