SAN FRANCISCO - May 21, 2024 - PRLog -- Skanska USA, a leading global construction and development firm, has announced that its program management and consulting group, Skanska Integrated Solutions (SIS) has been selected by the Watershed Conservation Authority (WCA) to provide construction management services for two projects: the Azusa Wilderness Park Entry project and the San Gabriel River Center & Gardens project. The Watershed Conservation Authority (WCA) is a joint powers authority between the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC) and the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. SIS will oversee the management of planning, scheduling, preconstruction, procurement, and construction for both projects.

"We are delighted to collaborate with Skanska Integrated Solutions on these pivotal open space enhancements projects," stated the Watershed Conservation Authority. "Our transformative projects, including the development of Azusa Wilderness Park and San Gabriel River Center & Gardens, have set a high standard for community-focused environmental conservation. With Skanska by our side, we are committed to enhancing our impact on the community and the environment. Together, we are crafting gateways to nature that educate, engage, and inspire sustainable interaction with our local ecosystems."

"We are excited to expand our relationship with RMC by partnering with their joint powers authority, the Watershed Conservation Authority, on these important conservation projects and are very much looking forward to being a valued partner and advisor," said John Maloblocki, Senior Vice President of Skanska Integrated Solutions. "Building off of our current work on the SELA Cultural Center and Alondra Gateway Park, Skanska is thrilled to continue being part of projects that allow us to have a meaningful impact on the environment and everyone in the local community."

Part of the larger 76-acre Azusa Wilderness Park in the Azusa Canyon, the Azusa Wilderness Park Entry project includes approximately 6.5 acres of zoned open space along the San Gabriel River at the north end of Azusa on Highway 39. The project has been designed by Withers & Sandgren, LTD. Landscape Architecture + Planning and proposes to develop the entry to the park with a series of features and park amenities including an entry gate, park signage, permeable parking area, restrooms, a pavilion structure, nature playground and river overlook areas. Additional construction elements include water and sewer utility lines, bioswale and other nature-based drainage construction, landscape planting, and irrigation.

The San Gabriel River Center & Gardens project is being developed by the WCA in coordination with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, and Page & Turnbull. The project is an approximately two-acre (86,000 square feet) site located on the east side of the San Gabriel River, and immediately adjacent west of the 605 Freeway. The project seeks to transform the site into a water-wise educational resource and visitor center for the public. The Center will include opportunities for local art, local water resource information, interactive features, multilingual signage, and park programming.

Skanska is currently partnering with RMC to provide program management services for both the SELA Cultural Center and Alondra Gateway Park projects in Los Angeles. Designed by Gehry Partners, SELA is a first-of-its-kind multi-arts facility located in South Gate along the Los Angeles River and is the first of seven signature projects from the Lower Los Angeles River Revitalization Plan (LLARRP) to comprehensively transform the Los Angeles River. Alondra is the first park project from the Compton Creek Implementation Plan, that is revitalizing an underutilized vacant property along Compton Creek to make accessible for families, bikers, runners, and others,
