Part of the larger 76-acre Azusa Wilderness Park in the Azusa Canyon, the Azusa Wilderness Park Entry project includes approximately 6.5 acres of zoned open space along the San Gabriel River at the north end of Azusa on Highway 39. The project has been designed by Withers & Sandgren, LTD. Landscape Architecture + Planning and proposes to develop the entry to the park with a series of features and park amenities including an entry gate, park signage, permeable parking area, restrooms, a pavilion structure, nature playground and river overlook areas. Additional construction elements include water and sewer utility lines, bioswale and other nature-based drainage construction, landscape planting, and irrigation. The San Gabriel River Center & Gardens project is being developed by the WCA in coordination with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, and Page & Turnbull. The project is an approximately two-acre (86,000 square feet) site located on the east side of the San Gabriel River, and immediately adjacent west of the 605 Freeway. The project seeks to transform the site into a water-wise educational resource and visitor center for the public. The Center will include opportunities for local art, local water resource information, interactive features, multilingual signage, and park programming.
