Q&A with Dirt Revolution Cycles founder and CTO Kevin Jones

TACOMA, Wash. - May 23, 2024 - PRLog -- Sandra:  What is Dirt Revolution Cycles & life like at an e-bike startup?

Kevin:  Primarily we do product testing and feedback for small e-bike motor and controller manufacturers.  We conduct durability, thermal cycle, peak hot/cold and vibration testing at our Tacoma, WA lab. Every day brings a new set of obstacles.

Sandra:  What has been your biggest challenge?

Kevin:  Initially I tried to do too much myself. It's sometimes hard to ask for help and give up control but I had to do it if this venture was ever going to be a success.

Sandra:  Is this how Jim Zetts and Jay Kumar joined the company?

Kevin: Yes, exactly.  I knew Jim (Zetts) from back in grad school.  He had an engineering background in the car industry and founded a successful e-commerce apparel business in 2003.  He and I would occasionally chat over the years about bikes & other stuff of mutual interest, so it was easy to reconnect.  Jay and I worked together on a development project back in 2017.

Sandra:  What does Jim & Jay do and how have they been an asset?

Kevin:  We're small enough not to worry about official titles but Jim brings real world business experience that the startup greatly needed and is probably best titled as our interim CEO.  He oversees company strategy, manages resources and is the main overseer of profitability.  His background in engineering testing was also a big help as he helped formalize our written test procedures.  Jay has a software engineering background, leads our app development programmers and brings a high level of creativity to the team.

Sandra:  Was it difficult giving up control and a portion of the company?

Kevin:  I toiled with it at first but spoke to a mentor who said it's better to have a smaller portion of something great than a full portion of something average.  Both Jim & Jay are part shareholders, so as owners they have a vested interest in the success of the company. Both guys were also very successful in their careers, so it wasn't difficult getting on the same page with a plan to reinvest profits back into the company.

Sandra:  What's the future look like for Dirt Revolution Cycles?

Kevin:  I think our future is bright.  While our core business is testing, the app development side has the biggest upside for future growth.  We're currently working together with several companies that will be bringing some very interesting products to market soon.
