By: Meridian Waste Eagle Ridge landfill is a Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) permitted municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill located at 13100 Highway VV in Bowling Green, MO servicing the disposal needs of Central East Missouri. The facility has an active clean energy system which collects methane gases created when organic waste breaks down or decomposes within a MSW landfill. Methane gas is pulled from the landfill and diverted to an on-site facility for the conversion of the gas to energy while preventing it from escaping into the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas. The treated landfill gas is piped offsite to supplement or replace natural gas usage in the form of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). The conversion of landfill gas to energy is an effective means of recycling and reusing the valuable resource. Meridian Waste's partners in its clean energy project include Vision RNG and U.S. Energy.
