Follow on Google News | Italian Golf Assoc Melbourne Celebrates Italian Republic Day with Coppa Italia TournamentBy: Italian Golf Association Over 100 IGA members and guests participated in the Coppa Italia tournament that was won by Silvio Oliveri, Gabriele Sebastiano, Joe Fisicaro and Peter Ronne The winners of the Coppa Italia were presented with the Coppa trophy at the post event celebratory dinner by event sponsor Adrian Ferrante of Valenti Construction Group. The IGA was established in 1972 by passionate golfing enthusiast Mr Tony Meden and the first competition held at Yarra Bend Golf Course on October 15, 1972. Since then, IGA has organised games, tournaments and events at every major golf course in Victoria where the Association and its members and guests have been most welcome. From an initial membership of 15 in 1972, the IGA has grown to over 150 members and operates from its own clubrooms located at 79 O'Connell Street North Melbourne. The IGA organises approximately 35 games a year, with the four major days being the Coppa Italia, The Italian Open and Junior Day. Other main events on the calendar are the Club Championships, Doubles Match Play, Singles Match Play, The Masters and the various Seasonal Cups. The success and activities of the IGA inspired similar Associations to be established in NSW, Queensland and Sth Australia with interstate games between the cross border rivals a highlight of IGA's golfing calendar. The interstate events are regarded as a great opportunity to play at many outstanding interstate courses and make new friends and connections across Australia.
