Follow on Google News | Connecting Continents: AWMC Introduces NWALOTA Project and Black Girls Rise Conference for 2024Celebrating African Heritage and Empowering Women Across Atlanta and Nigeria
By: African Women Mobilization Commission (AWMC) The NWALOTA Project, which stands for Nigeria Welcomes Africans Living Outside the African Continent, is an AWMC cultural initiative designed to welcome African Americans to Nigeria. The name "NWALOTA" carries a significant meaning in Igbo, as it translates to Children Come Home; The project aims to reconnect African Americans with their ancestral homeland and introduce them to the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. One of the key objectives of the NWALOTA Project is to provide African Americans with the opportunity to meet and interact with the custodians of Nigerian culture, such as the Kings and Chiefs. These encounters allow for a deeper understanding and appreciation of Nigerian traditions and customs. Additionally, the project offers African Americans the possibility of obtaining land for business purposes, facilitating economic empowerment and investment opportunities. As part of the NWALOTA Project, participants who have undergone a DNA ancestry testing that confirms their Nigerian heritage( though not mandatory) are given the chance to adopt African names, further strengthening their connection to their roots. The project also includes a specific cultural program, such as the R.O.C Drumming Festival. This festival is dedicated to reminding males of their responsibility towards their communities, bringing them together through the power of rhythm and music to promote unity, cultural exchange, and community engagement. This festival will be held in Abuja Nigeria on October 12, 2024. Additionally, the Black Girls Rise Conference is the Advocacy component of NWALOTA, celebrating over 1200 girls coming of age on October 18, in Enugu and October 21, 2024, in Umuahia Nigeria. These girls are those who have started Menstruation. A fundraiser entitled Black Girls Rise International Fundraiser will be held on July the 13th at 1:00 PM, to purchase hygiene products, motivational and health speakers, food, entertainment, etc. for the October 18, and 21, 2024, events in Nigeria.
