Biden Now Has Two Off-Ramps, or "PLAN C"

Biden Could Blame His Withdrawal on Covid or Jill, or Run With Obama

WASHINGTON - July 17, 2024 - PRLog -- President Biden seems to be in a situation from which he cannot easily extract himself without a viable exit-ramp, suggests public interest law professor John Banzhaf.

It's also clear that leaders of the Democratic Party are also very eager to find a viable exit strategy for him; as CNN reported, Democrats Hope To Find An "Off-Ramp" For Biden (https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2024/07/12/cnns_jeff_zeleny_democrats_hope_to_find_an_off-ramp_for_biden_but_this_is_his_decision_to_make.html).

He (and probably even more so his wife) was unwilling to give any public credence to concerns about his mental health which have led to polls showing that he is likely to lose to Donald Trump if he doesn't drop out.  But if he did, making such a move under pressure could seem like a cowardly thing for him to do, and perhaps be seized upon by many as a concession that he is in fact too old to run and/or does have neurological problems.

But, as a result of two recent events, Biden now has two off-ramps

First, his diagnosis with Covid provides a perfectly viable and believable reason for him to step down.

On the other hand, there is a foreseeable risk that he will get sicker before he gets well, and/or that he will suffer as so many have from "long Covid," or that voters will at least be concerned that he might.

Thus blaming his withdrawal now on his newly diagnosed bout with Covid would permit him to drop out with his head held high, and without admitting to any neurological concerns.

Second, as a result of the almost-successful assassination of Trump in Butler, Biden now suddenly has another potential off-ramp.

He and his wife Jill could simply announce publicly that, because of her concerns about his physical safety which came to a head when she watched Trump almost get killed campaigning, Biden has reluctantly agreed to step down at Jill's urging, argues Banzhaf.

Neither history nor the general public would blame Biden if he chose not to run if he and Jill blamed the decision on her renewed concerns, and perhaps also those of other family members, about his physical safety in view of what almost happened in Butler.

If, despite these opportunities, Biden still he refuses to quit, he and his party should consider the now-widely-publicized "PLAN C" (http://banzhaf.net/PLANC.html)
