Follow on Google News | Half of Brits inspired by summer of sport. What should you know before starting a new sport?Better still, new analysis from London Medical Laboratory reveals it could have a lasting effect on many Brits. Half of under-25s who have watched events on TV, in pubs and on their devices say they have been inspired to take up a sport. Even more remarkably, a whopping 65% of spectators who have attended a live major sporting event say they feel motivated to start a new sport or exercise regime. Dr Avinash Hari Narayanan (MBChB), Clinical Lead at London Medical Laboratory, says: 'It's no surprise that this remarkable summer has inspired us to take up a sport or just get fitter and it's not just younger Brits who have got the sport and fitness bug. 30% of Brits of any age group who have watched a major recent sporting event at home say they are more likely to get involved. 'These results are in line with a previous, 2011 study by UK Sport although, of course, today many more people watch major events on their mobile devices rather than live TV. 'However and wherever people have watched this summer's sporting events, the fact that they have inspired a renewed interest in participation and keeping fit is excellent news, in terms of physical and mental health. However, whether you are 21 or 71, it's always a good idea to get a snapshot of your current fitness levels before embarking on a new sport or fitness routine. 'For anyone joining a local club, whether it's tennis, football, cricket or bowls, it's best to talk to the coach about your experience and fitness levels. Likewise, if you are joining a gym, you should receive a fitness assessment test before starting on an exercise routine. 'However, there are other ways you can get a deep dive insight into your sports health. 'London Medical Laboratory's own Sports Fitness Profile blood test measures 54 key health indicators, including all the biomarkers mentioned. Whatever your gender and age, it's important to assess how your body will be affected by your fitness and sports activities. 'People can take select their appointment time and location to take the test at one of our 120 convenient test locations around the UK. Alternatively, a trained pharmacist can visit people at their home or office at a chosen time. For more information, see https://www.londonmedicallaboratory.com/ End
