This disparity is highlighted by the Office of Minority Health, part of the Department of Health and Human Services. Addressing these health inequities requires targeted efforts to improve access to nutritious food, quality healthcare, and preventive care. Access to nutrient-poor, inexpensive, shelf-stable items from dollar and liquor stores is prevalent. These environments often contribute to poor dietary habits and exacerbate health disparities. Addressing these issues involves increasing the availability of healthy food options and supporting community-driven initiatives to improve food access and overall health outcomes. African Americans are disproportionately affected by early-onset health conditions compared to their white counterparts, leading to higher early mortality rates. High blood pressure affects 12% of African Americans aged 18-34, compared to 10% of their white peers. This disparity increases with age, affecting 33% of African Americans and 22% of whites aged 35-49 and Diabetes is prevalent in 10% of African Americans aged 35-49, while only 6% of whites in the same age group experience this condition.
