Feeding Electricity into the Grid is Less Attractive – How Energy Management Saves Money
By:

KARACHI, Pakistan - Aug. 6, 2024 - PRLog -- As Pakistan grapples with increasing energy costs and a growing demand for sustainable solutions, energy management is emerging as a critical component for homeowners and businesses looking to optimize their solar investments.

While solar power offers a promising avenue for reducing electricity bills, the potential savings can be significantly amplified through effective energy management. Traditionally, a portion of the electricity generated by rooftop solar systems is fed back into the grid at a lower rate than the cost of purchasing electricity. However, with the implementation of energy management systems (EMS), homeowners and businesses can dramatically increase self-consumption of solar power, leading to substantial cost reductions.

An average Pakistani household consumes between 4,000 to 5,100 kWh of electricity annually. While solar installations typically result in a 20-35% self-consumption rate, the use of an EMS can boost this figure to an impressive 90%. This means that a significant portion of the generated electricity can be utilized on-site, reducing reliance on the grid and associated expenses.

"By intelligently managing energy flow within a household or business, we can optimize the use of self-generated electricity and minimize the need to purchase expensive power from the grid," said Head of Technical team HABL. "Our Energy Flow Monitor and Energies Manager identify excess energy and prioritize device activation or deactivation, ensuring maximum utilization of solar power."

For instance, if a household generates 3,000 kWh of electricity annually through solar panels, and the cost of electricity is approximately PKR 42 per kWh while the feed-in tariff is around PKR 9.5 per kWh, the potential savings can amount to approximately PKR 97,500 per year.

Moreover, when integrated with energy storage systems, EMS solutions can further enhance savings by storing excess solar energy for use during peak demand periods or at night.

As Pakistan strives to achieve energy independence and sustainability, HABL`s energy management systems offer a practical and cost-effective approach to maximizing the benefits of solar power. By optimizing energy consumption and reducing reliance on the grid, these systems empower consumers to take control of their energy future and contribute to a greener Pakistan.
