Follow on Google News | ![]() Who Be that Thorn in Yer Side? How ter deal with prickly people in yer life. (A lesson them seeking office need ter learn.)
By: Pirate Preacher First off, Skipper and the Devil ain't in the same crew. Second, the logic be all wrong. The Devil loves it when we be puffed up with pride. He wants us ter boast so he can tear us down. If Paul were heading' fer a prideful fall, the Devil would stand off and watch. That rascal wouldn' set out ter work against himself. He ain't that daft. Paul were not talkin' 'bout exalting himself above measure through pride. No, Paul makes the point that the messenger from the Devil, that "thorn in the flesh," was sent from the Devil ter keep him, Paul, from being exalted by Skipper in the eyes of others. Skipper replied that His grace be greater than the enemy's attacks: that even with this nagging messenger mocking, slandering, and spouting lies 'bout Paul, Skipper's work and words through Paul would bear much fruit. Basically, Skipper said, "Paul, let it go. That gossipin' spirit won't amount ter anything, but ye, with My grace, will continue ter grow in stature and honor among men." And ye know what? Skipper were right. Who among us wouldn't like ter have the reputation of Paul? Next time a prickly person gets under yer skin, give that individual over ter Skipper. Let Skipper deal with that thorn in yer side. Regardless of what yer enemies say 'bout ye, Skipper's grace will see ye through and leave ye head and shoulders above yer mates.
