Reuse, repurpose, recycle this National Thrift Shop Day and help change lives

When you shop or donate Goodwill you give more than you think

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Aug. 8, 2024 - PRLog -- August 17th is National Thrift Shop Day, and while it is a fun observance that celebrates the thrill of shopping for unique and affordable vintage items, Goodwill is shining the light on sustainability this year. Goodwill stores help extend the life of usable items through its business model of collecting and selling donated goods, and in return funds made from those sales are put back into the community through employment and job training programs.

Goodwill has been a leader in reuse and has been for more than 120 years, making every effort to sell, repurpose or recycle donations locally with multiple retail channels. These include more than 3,300 retail stores, outlet stores as well as ecommerce, so donated goods are kept in circulation. Last year, Goodwill diverted 4.3 billion pounds of used goods from landfills to give them a second life.

Goodwill's mission is to provide people with support to empower themselves and thrive through training, development and employment. Goodwill Community Resource Centers provide convenient access to tools, technology, training, and support for those looking for work, upskilling, or help. Last year alone, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida provided assistance to 22,459 people right here in the local community.

Ninety-two cents of every dollar raised in Goodwill SWFL retail stores goes directly into funding local training and services. So, this National Thrift Shop Day, celebrate by shopping. Not only will your purchases help fund programs and services for your neighbors, but you could possibly win a $100 gift card. Goodwill SWFL is hosting a National Thrift Shop Day contest, providing one lucky winner a $100 gift card just for shopping at Goodwill on August 17th.
