Cybrid Technologies UV Conversion Film: Beware of Counterfeits!

The Commercialization of UV Conversion Film: Nitto Denko's Innovation, Choshu Industry Co.'s Technology. Beware of Counterfeits!

DELHI, India - Aug. 16, 2024 - PRLog -- Cybrid Technologies Inc. (https://en.cybrid.com.cn/) began selling its UV conversion RayBo® Film in 2023. Developed in collaboration with Choshu Industry Co., LTD, this film protects HJT (heterojunction) solar cells from UV-induced degradation (UVID) while enhancing their power generation and efficiency. Recent research has highlighted UV sensitivity in other cell technologies, leading to growing global interest in RayBo® Film encapsulants.

Originally developed by Nitto Denko Corporation, the RayBo® Film technology underwent secondary development, including additive formulation and reliability testing. Initially, it was suited for P-type solar cells in the U.S. market but faced high production costs that hindered commercialization.

With the shift from P-type to higher efficiency N-type crystalline cells, including HJT cells, the need for improved UV protection has increased. While traditional encapsulation films with UV absorbers protect cells, they do not convert UV light into electricity. In contrast, RayBo® Film absorbs and converts UV light into visible light, achieving over 95% quantum conversion efficiency and boosting module power by 1.5%-2%.

Recent studies have shown that TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) cells also suffer from UV sensitivity. The Renewable Energy Test Center (RETC) found that 40% of tested modules showed significant degradation, indicating potential power losses of 10%-16% within three years of operation, exceeding module warranty terms.

Choshu Industry Co. acquired the technology license from Nitto Denko and integrated the film into their HJT modules, which now feature a distinctive blue appearance ("Premium Bluetm"). This film has proven effective in reducing power loss and enhancing output, backed by nearly a decade of validation.

However, there have been attempts by over a dozen companies in China to replicate this technology. Choshu Industry Co. is actively working with patent attorneys to combat counterfeits, and major solar manufacturers are wary of potential patent violations. The Japanese company holding the patents is prepared to take legal action against unauthorized use and counterfeits to protect its technology and market position.
