Chuckie F. Mahoney Memorial Foundation Awards 2024-45 School Grants

Annual Grant Program Provides $24,000 to Improve Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Education in Western Pennsylvania Schools

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - Aug. 19, 2024 - PRLog -- Eight school districts and intermediate units serving students in western Pennsylvania will receive grants from the Chuckie F. Mahoney Memorial Foundation to provide enhanced programs to improve mental health and prevent suicide in the 2024-25 school year.

The Chuckie F. Mahoney Memorial Foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to empower students and parents with mental health resources and education. Each year, the Foundation awards grants to help schools provide more robust mental health resources for students.

The Foundation has awarded $3,000 each to Laurel Highlands, Quaker Valley, South Fayette Township, Bentworth and Beth Center school districts and Slippery Rock High School. Grants were also awarded to Northwest Tri County and Westmoreland intermediate units, which serve schools in Crawford, Erie, Warren and Westmoreland counties.

"Reaching young people is such a fulfilling part of our mission, and we're proud to equip their teachers and schools with tools to help kids build confidence and learn coping strategies to improve their mental health," said Foundation President Charles "Chal" Mahoney.

Chal and his wife, Debi, created the Chuckie F. Mahoney Memorial Foundation to help others by sharing their personal experience losing their son to suicide. Established as a college scholarship program in 2002, the Foundation has grown into a regional resource for students and parents.

Chuckie F. Mahoney was a dean's list student at Allegheny College who dreamed of becoming a child advocate lawyer. Through the Foundation's work to help schools improve students' mental health, combat depression and remove the stigma for seeking help, Chuckie's legacy of assisting children endures.
