BIRMINGHAM, U.K. - Aug. 21, 2024 - PRLog -- BCOP are opening new, free dementia cafes starting in September. We're working with the Birmingham Dementia Carers Hub (a partnership between Age UK Birmingham, Age Concern Birmingham and Dementia Carers Count Birmingham).

A dementia cafe is an informal, friendly and welcoming meeting where people with dementia and their carers can meet and get to know others on a similar journey.  The monthly meetings are run by experienced hosts who provide much needed practical support, advice and information. Some have expert guest speakers. Everyone is encouraged to take part in dementia friendly activities, which will include talks, music, arts and crafts, games and quizzes. They are a great opportunity to have a chat over a cuppa, make new friends and talk to someone who understands.

Helen Gore, CEO of BCOP says "Here at our care homes, we're familiar with providing respite care and permanent care for people with many different types of dementia. Our homes provide a safe and secure environment for them and their family member carers to meet, to learn and to take part in a variety of activities. We're delighted to partner with experts from Age UK, Age Concern and Dementia Carers Count who provide complimentary services and activities for carers, their families and for people who live with dementia here in Birmingham".

Memory Care Manager Gemma Hollyoake from Age UK Birmingham agrees. "The new groups will provide more much needed support for people in the Moseley, Selly Park and Handsworth Wood areas. Our facilitators are very much looking forward to welcoming new people, working with the BCOP care home teams and we're excited by the ideal facilities they'll be able to offer their communities".

The new dementia cafes start at
