BPCL Launches India's First Biofuel Blend HFHSD Bunker at Mumbai Port

This new development gives maritime companies a greener and more environmentally friendly fuel option compared to traditional fuels.

The launch of the HFHSD biofuel blend is part of BPCL's commitment to green energy through its Project Aspire initiative. Sukhmal Jain, Director (Marketing) at BPCL, stated, "This biofuel blend bunker is a significant step towards a cleaner future and positions BPCL as a global leader in the bunkering sector."

BPCL's move into biofuel blends is a strategic decision to expand its range of green bunker fuels. The company is also looking into other eco-friendly fuel options like methanol, hydrogen, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). This strategy not only strengthens BPCL's role as a leader in Indian bunkering but also shows its commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Chairman of Mumbai Port Authority highlighted the long-standing partnership between BPCL and the port, noting their joint efforts in boosting economic growth and maintaining energy security in the region. He emphasized how important it is for both organizations to work together to make Mumbai Port a top bunkering hub on India's western coast. He also mentioned the need for ongoing innovation in the supply chain and adapting to new technologies to meet industry demands.

Dr. Atul Patne (IAS), Principal Secretary (Fisheries) of the Maharashtra government, spoke about the importance of BPCL working with the Department of Fisheries. He stressed the potential for providing eco-friendly fuel options to fishermen, which aligns with the broader goal of promoting environmentally sustainable practices.
